Unschooling is not for the indolent. It takes effort to preserve the time and space for true learning. It takes tolerance of ambiguity and a more unpredictable path of learning than the neat and linear schooled model. It takes keen observation to identify children’s budding interests, and it takes resourcefulness in connecting them to tangible and digital tools to explore those interests. It takes a personal commitment to modeling the behaviors we hope our children will develop, rather than demanding they develop them. Unschooling takes a commitment to broadening their world, expanding their perspectives, and exposing them to new tools and ideas.
