As schooling shifts to earlier ages, for longer hours, some children simply cannot adapt. They are often the ones labeled as troublemakers, diagnosed with various impediments, or told they are failing. They are the messengers. We should listen to them. These children tell us, loudly and clearly, that our industrial framework of test-driven mass schooling doesn’t create learners. It creates mimics.
