I’ve seen this disconnection at all levels of teacher preparation and practice and even sometimes at the level of the licensors and accreditors who are charged with maintaining safety and determining what constitutes good or bad pedagogy. Many of these childcare and preschool programs are accredited by some of the most reputable organizations in the country, yet their curriculum sometimes betrays a dismaying lack of sympathy for, or even understanding of, what it is like to be a child.
