Rain is fascinating for children; if you do not believe me, watch them watching it and then reflect on what they are seeing – the spontaneous and unplanned falling of drops of water from the sky! This has to be a rather magical phenomenon when you see it as a new experience. It saddens me that so many children are now conditioned by the adults around them to be almost afraid of going out in the rain. The myth that you can catch a cold from getting cold and wet has surely disappeared amongst qualified staff, but some folk memory seems to linger on.
