Water is a loose part that seems to be of never ending interest to young children. Kids are so fascinated by it that they will seek opportunities to engage with it even though they know it’ll get them in trouble. Which is why toddlers get scolded for messing about when they are supposed to be brushing their teeth or washing their hands–or you sometimes find with arms elbow deep in the toilet bowl. They’re not trying to be trouble, they’re trying to get to know this fascinating substance.
The question for adults is: How can you safely make the most of this loose part in your early learning setting while keeping everyone safe and healthy?
