Play Dough

Whether you’re partial to the store-bought version or DIY recipes, play dough is a smash with kids. Here are Playvolution HQ, we favor DIY options because kids can–and should–be part of the creation process. The measuring, mixing, and direction following are all rich in learning potential.

I once spent time with a handful of seasoned early learning professionals, firm in their belief that three and four-year-olds were too young to be trusted to play with the colorful globs of dough. They also asserted that it was frivolous. School readiness was their mandate.

That’s one way of looking at things. A more child-centered idea based in what we know about child development and playful learning is that play dough can and should be used by kids from toddlerhood (or earlier) and up. And that it supports a wide range of learning important for school readiness.
