Could more outdoor time boost your child’s executive skills? Researchers in Norway think so. A 4-year longitudinal study of 562 students in 28 day care centers in Norway, published in 2017, found that children who were given high levels of outdoor time during childcare showed consistently higher levels of executive functions like attention and short-term memory, and fewer inattention-hyperactivity symptoms at ages 4, 5, 6, and 7 than the children with low levels of outdoor time.
