At around three to four months babies’ visual acuity improves dramatically. Whereas previously they were able to see objects in focus around 22– 30 cm away, a baby’s vision by this time is approximately the same as an adult’s (Murray 2014). The baby’s increased capacity to see further afield stimulates their curiosity to engage with objects and other people in the world around them. Babies cease, for example, to engage in the same high level of eye-contact with their parent, and will enjoy looking around, perhaps becoming absorbed exploring something within easy reach.
