Heavy work refers to activities that push or pull against the body or involve carrying. Such activity strengthens and maintains the proprioceptive system by offering resistance to joints, muscles, and connective tissues. It also builds the bodies proprioceptive system, the sensory system that allows us to sense our location, movements, and physical actions without consciously thinking about them.
Plentiful opportunities for this type of play in the early years help prepare kids for school and life.
