Heavy

Creating a play environment where children can interact with the concept Heavy has many developmental benefits. It promotes physical development, cognitive growth, social skills, and emotional development. As children lift, move, and compare objects, they build a foundational understanding of scientific concepts like weight, balance, effort, and more through hands-on exploration. Playing with the idea of heft is also a chance to engage in heavy work.

You can create a play space supportive of exploring the concept by providing physical loose parts, such as fillable containers (e.g., with sand or water), logs, tires, boards, cable spools, and similar items. A balance scale facilitates weight comparison.
