This handout explains the 6 sensorimotor substages of Jean Piaget’s (1896-1980) Sensorimotor Stage. The sensorimotor stage is one of the 4 stages of cognitive development Piaget outlined in his work. Those stages are the Sensorimotor Stage, the Preoperational Stage, the Concrete Operational Stage, and the Formal Operational Stage.
