About Going Through Schema

Going Through schema play involves breaking through boundaries or putting objects through tunnels, tubes, holes, and other openings. Examples include poking holes in a piece of clay with a golf tee or chopstick, using a paper punch to make holes in a sheet of paper, threading beads onto a piece of twine, or slipping a bracelet onto an arm.

Examples

Some examples of this play schema in action:

Putting themselves or other objects through tunnels is one way kids explore going through schema. They may also enjoy dropping things through cardboard tubes or plastic pipes.

Lacing beads onto a piece of leather or string is another way of exploring going through schema.

Lacers, like the ones pictured below, may also be popular with children exploring going through schema.

Play with paper punches is another way of exploring this schema.

As is using drills to bore holes in wood.

Slipping bracelets onto wrists or ankles or putting on necklaces are other ways kids may explore going through schema.

Straws and sections of hose are great loose parts for exploring the going through schema.

Spraying water through a firehose is a great example of exploring going through schema.

Finally, kids exploring this schema may also show a fascination with doorways.
