“Writing” may be so much fun for children because they get to change something. They get to take pristine white sheets of paper and cover them with color and designs—in exactly the way they like. Now, this is pretty powerful stuff for children who may be used to hearing “no” all the time. They get to set the agenda and do as they wish…. They are also learning (albeit slowly) about how much pressure they need to use…, how to hold their fingers and hand, and how to create straight versus curved lines. These are obviously all things children will need to know for school.
