Quote
As the toddler’s cognitive and physical skills develop, so too does her realization that she is separate from those she loves. For the adult who is caring about and educating this child, suddenly it seems as if the sweet little infant who needed us a few days ago has suddenly turned into a freedom-fighting monster! Then again, just when we are becoming used to the child becoming independent and separate, suddenly she turns around and needs us all over again, sinking into our lap with thumb in mouth, resting her head wearily against our chest. Weary from life’s battles, weary from being big and independent— she’s needing a rest from it all, needing to gather confidence from the adults around her once again.
