I have been in the Education field for over 20 years and have worked in many different aspects of the education industry, from private childcare to public schools to special needs programs. As an Early Childhood Educator, I am passionate about supporting the developmental needs of children. I have collaborated with and trained others on supporting children’s social-emotional development and promoting play for children. I am a Registered Trainer and very passionate about training the teachers who build the future from the ground up! I genuinely love my work and educating others on the importance of PLAY. BASED. LEARNING.

I was born and raised in Pomona, California. I grew up in a one-parent household with one older sister. My childhood was entirely in Spanish. As a bilingual educator, I strongly advocate for children’s use of their home language in the classroom. I believe children have more than one teacher, including their families, environment, and educators. I strongly believe that self-chosen and self-directed play is how children learn and practice new skills. I have three children, a husband, and a dog named Morty. When not working, I journal, garden, read, or spend time with my family. I’ve been told I am “spicy.” I advocate for what I am passionate about while questioning and challenging the norms. I love to learn new things and challenge my current knowledge, thoughts, and abilities.

Rebecca is the founder of Foothills Forest School.  She has been an early childhood educator for the last 11 years. Foothills Forest School is the product of years of passionate planning and dedication to early childhood and nature connection. Since early in her career, it has been a dream to operate a high-quality program. She believes all children should have access to a developmentally appropriate, truly supportive environment as well as the opportunity to develop a relationship with the natural world. In addition to studying Child Development at Los Medanos College and Humboldt State University, Rebecca continued her professional development through in-person trainings, podcasts, in-depth workshops, seminars, and books all while working full-time in preschool and Pre-K classrooms. It was during these years that she witnessed the beauty of play-based, whole‐child learning intertwined with the beauty of experiencing life outdoors.
