Measuring Spoons

Measuring spoons are fantastic loose parts—simple, affordable, and endlessly versatile for sparking rich, child-led play.

They slide right into dramatic play kitchens (think measuring ingredients for mud pies or fairy soup), sensory bins (scooping, pouring, and dumping with rice, sand, or water beads), and STEM exploration zones where important concepts and understanding sneak in through hands-on fun.

Kids naturally bump into ideas like measurement, volume, capacity, and early numeracy as they scoop, compare sizes, fill and empty, or line them up by size. Along the way, they build fine motor precision, hand-eye coordination, and small-muscle control.

You’ll see them sorting by size or color, nesting and stacking, arranging in patterns, experimenting with pouring different materials, or dropping them (gently or with forceful enthusiasm) to hear those delightful metallic clinks and plinks.
