Yoga balls, They’re big, bright, and bouncy. What more could you ask for in a loose part?
They’re very versatile–and that variability is key to an engaging loose part. They’re also ideal for supporting heavy work, which is any activity that pushes or pulls against the body or involves carrying. As kids carry, kick, bounce, roll, spin, and generally manipulate these big balls, they also give their sensory systems a good workout.
One minor annoyance is that they are dreadfully hard to put away since they take up so much space and tend to roll off shelves–if you happen to have a wide enough shelf to store them in the first place. But then again, kids probably prefer them to be always available and ready to play.
