An important differentiator between schooling (including traditional homeschooling) and unschooling is that unschooling avoids a prescribed curriculum. Unlike other educational approaches, including those that attempt to make curriculum more nonlinear or emergent or child-focused, unschooling dismisses the very notion of adult-imposed curriculum. It discards the idea that learning needs to be preplanned and assessed with certain measures of achievement.
