Thermometers are another simple loose part you can add to your play space to promote STEM play and exploration. The delicate glass versions may not be the best choice for free-range thermometer play, but there are lots of durable versions available that’ll stand up to busy kids. Pool thermometers are my go-to choice when selecting a loose parts thermometer. They’re hefty, they’re durable, and they float.
You can also mount thermometers in your inside and outside play spaces, so kids have an opportunity to bump in to the temperature.
