This handout looks at the tactile system, also known as the sense of touch. This system relies on skin receptors to detect touch, pressure, texture, temperature, and pain, providing essential input for interacting with the world and ensuring safety. This is the first in a series of Play Simplified handouts examining the 8 sensory systems. These handouts provide simple definitions of common early learning concepts and ways to support them.
