Quote

For all practical purposes, the child spirit is a secret from the adults; it appears to them as a mystery; for they judge of it merely from practical impotence in reaction and not from the psychical energy that is potent in it. We must reflect that behind every manifestation there is a decipherable cause. There is no phenomenon that has not its motives, its raison d’être. It is too easy to judge every puzzling reaction, every difficult phase as a whim. Such whims should assume the importance of a problem that must be solved, an enigma that must be deciphered. This is certainly difficult, but extremely interesting; it means above all a new and loftier attitude on the part of the adult.
