
Researchers propose that the purpose of sleep shifts around age two and a half, from building brain connections in infants to repairing and maintaining them in older children and adults, based on a study analyzing sleep patterns and brain development in over 60 studies, suggesting this “terrible twos” transition may explain the frustrating behavior as toddlers’ brains rewire for more mature functioning.
