Teachers in most American programs barely have time for a bathroom break, much less adequate time in the day to document and reflect on children’s learning together with their colleagues, so documentation can quickly become a chore that takes teachers away from their children. It runs the risk of becoming an end point (which begins to look a lot like the scrapbook problem) and not as a vehicle for building relationships with and between children or for reflective understanding.
