Few things are more enraging than a dawdling child in a household that’s running late. It feels so maddening—so disrespectful, even—to have to tell a child over and over again to do something and still find it undone. But perhaps it’s the adults who have to adapt to children’s rhythms, and not the reverse. Simply put: we don’t want kids wasting our precious time—and we seem to be neglecting a young child’s naturally meandering tempo.
