The precinct of a classroom, even a warm and inviting one, can be painfully confining. Too boring, too confusing, too easy, too hard. Too stimulating, too tiring. Just too much. While popular culture usually portrays the fallout of unhappy schooling in elementary or middle school, I believe the roots of this disappointment can begin far earlier, in the educational and childcare systems serving so many American preschoolers and kindergartners.
