…does lack of class time justify the assignment of homework? Let’s answer that question with another: How much time would be sufficient so that teachers who rely on this justification could announce that homework was no longer necessary? My guess is that there would never be enough, and homework would continue to be assigned no matter how many hours were available to teachers during the day. If that’s true, then something other than a lack of time must explain the decision to make students do homework on a regular basis.
