It is way past time for state preschools and Head Start to issue instructions to every single early childhood program in the country to open their laptops, start hitting the Delete button, empty the recycle bin, fire up the paper shredders, and erase from consciousness and memory school readiness goals and performance objectives. Or perhaps we should not destroy all traces of this failed experiment. We could keep one copy of each set of school readiness goals and one of each set of performance objectives and place them where they rightfully belong, right between the Mercurochrome and the paregoric exhibits in the Museum of Stupid Things We Once Did to Children.
