Try this simple exercise. Go into a young child’s room and ask to play Legos with her. If you play according to her script, everything will go fine. However, if you start to impose your goals on the project or attempt to force new directions based on your wants or needs, the fun will end, and quickly. Your child will either lose interest or get angry, but either way, your child is done with that project. The quickest way to kill off your child’s interest in a game, topic, or experiment is to impose your will on her learning.
