Narcissism and self-admiration (“narcissism lite”) are less likely to make a child successful regardless of whether you’re looking at academic performance or popularity. Even real self-esteem doesn’t contribute much to success. But success contributes mightily to self-esteem. Kids have to “do” something, and do it well, to get a self-esteem boost.
