Quote

None of us wants to raise entitled, fragile children. We know in our hearts that kids need to fail, need to be challenged, need to be left to their own devices, and need to feel the rush of pride when they find that they can manage. The exultant cry of the two-year-old, “I do it myself,” and the insistence of the teen that “it’s my life” are both celebrations of developing competence, and lines in the sand about whose life it is. Our job is to be emotionally in synch with our children, celebrating right alongside them.
