When children are focused on a schema they will explore items in a number of ways: banging them, rolling them, throwing them and working out what different items do. It’s important that practitioners provide lots of open-ended resources, as well as time and space to allow children to fully explore. Children who have interesting, open-ended resources available will be more willing to have a go.
