It is difficult for us as early years practitioners to facilitate socio-dramatic play that is in a secret place and that we cannot see, as it feels very risky. However, if we are flexible, we can create spaces that are wild enough to be risky enough for children to be able to experiment with ideas in their hidden play. This is often linked to the creation of dens, spaces where children can be just out of sight but not at too much risk.
