When children memorize words for a vocabulary test or formulas for a science test, they often don’t even care if they understand what they are memorizing; they just want the right answers. So if schools simply make the conventional curriculum more difficult, children will merely memorize more material they don’t grasp and find school more unpleasant than they already do.
