…some children seem to know all they need to know about play, while others need specific lessons in rules, skills, or sportsmanship. Teaching these lessons is another obvious role for adults. I am amazed at how often I see children who want to play but don’t know the rules, have never practiced the skills, and can’t bear to lose. That makes it hard for children to play freely and spontaneously.
