Sometimes play is a tool for relaxing, recharging, and getting your head right. That’s what block car wash play was for Maddie years ago in our family child care program.
When she needed time away from the other kids, she’d build a car wash out of Domino Blocks and systematically clean all the Hot Wheel and Matchbox cars.
First, she’d make a long road.

Then, she’d build the car wash.

After that, the cars would line up…

…and one after another (with driving and car wash sound effects) they would get their turn.

Once all the cars had been washed, Maddie would be interested in other humans again.
Block Car Wash Update
She’s a teenager now, and we haven’t been in touch for years. Sometimes I wonder–when high school, parents, and life get overwhelming, does she head to the car wash?
[Update] She graduated, and I think she was looking to become a teacher.
