The Physiological Sigh is a research-based method of breathing that both calms the mind and oxygenates the body, helping you become relaxed and alert.
‘Take A Breath’ is common advice in stressful situations. And it is good advice—If you take the correct kind of breath.
To focus and calm down in stressful moments, you should take a breath called the Physiological Sigh. It consists of two inhales, followed by an extended exhalation. Ideally, the inhalations are through the nose and the exhalation is through the mouth. For best results, repeat the 2 in/1 out pattern 2 or 3 times.
