Overview

This 8-page document, which looks at the Parent and Family Involvement Survey, is a snapshot of key educational trends in the U.S., pulled from the broader 2020 Condition of Education report. It highlights stats like the steady rise in public school enrollment (from 49.8 million in 2008 to 50.7 million in 2018), a notable increase in English language learners (10.2% of students in 2018), and a climb in high school graduation rates (85% in 2017-18). It also touches on postsecondary shifts, such as growing undergraduate enrollment and a slight dip in immediate college enrollment among high school grads, all presented with colorful charts for quick digestion.

The second half digs into achievement and equity, noting persistent gaps—like 4th-grade reading scores stagnating since 2009 and Black-White score disparities narrowing but still significant. It wraps up with labor market outcomes, showing higher employment and earnings for college grads compared to high school diploma holders. Aimed at policymakers and the public, it’s a concise, data-driven overview meant to track progress without deep analysis or narrative fluff—think of it as an educational scoreboard.
