Over

The concept of Over is an easily observable loose part in most play focused early learning settings where there’s climbing, leaping, crawling, jumping, hiding, painting, building, and bridging going on.

The way to support conceptual loose parts like this one is to pepper the space with opportunities for children to bump in to the idea as they play and explore. If there are variables in the environment that nudge them towards the concept, they will discover it. The photos below offer up a variety of examples.

Learning about a concept in this way–experiencing with their bodies–sticks in children’s busy brains more firmly than just talking about it in circle time.
