Number spinners offer kids a chance to bump into numeracy as they play. These spinners are serviceable loose parts–environmental variables that we can interact with–in board games, but they really shine when removed from the games and plopped into a play environment.
Kids will suss new ways to use free-range spinners. In the dramatic play area, they may serve as kitchen timers, spaceship rocket launchers, or time machine controls. Beyond that, they will be integrated into kid-created games. These are prime opportunities for creative problem-solving, innovation, social interaction, and interpersonal communication.
