Many parents will find it unnecessarily brash to say: “I want…” and “No!” It is not seen as polite or politically correct to focus on yourself in that manner. Softer and more subtle statements are preferred. It is, in fact, a very good idea and absolutely possible to be more direct. When parents use direct language over a longer period of time their leadership and personal boundaries will have manifested themselves in such a manner that the children know exactly what their parents stand for.
