Plopping a collection of durable magnifiers into an early learning setting is a simple way to prompt child-directed STEM play and investigation. Kid’ll use them to look at books, bugs, blocks, boogers, baskets, bricks, baby dolls, bumps bruises, and even things that don’t begin with the letter B.
You can stock each area of your play space with a magnifier or two, or let them make their home in an easily accessible central location where kids can get them when they need them. Beyond that, all you really need to do to support their use is be available to offer some timely and relevant direct instruction and answer questions like “can I look up your nose?” and “what are boogers made of?”
