With some proper supervision, rope is a great loose part that supports all kinds of learning. Kids will pull it, jump it, twist it, tie it, and more. A great thing about it is the wide variety of sizes, colors, and styles in which it is available.
Some may worry about safety, but with proper supervision and hazard mitigation, it’s perfectly safe to let kids play with the stuff. The way to keep kids safe is to help them identify the potential hazards, so they can take informed risk. Banishing the stuff from their presence, never letting them interact with it, is a recipe for disaster. Zero- risk bias is dangerous. If Karlo has access to the stuff in his earliest years, knows not to put it around his neck, understands not to wrap it too tightly around other body parts, and
has proper adult supervision, he’s pretty safe.
