One reason leaves are outstanding loose parts is because they are so variable. (Remember, Simon Nicholson defines loose parts as variables in an environment.) Not only do they vary from plant to plant, they vary during the plant’s growth cycle.

Kids can pick them, cut them, sort them, hide in them, glue them, tape them, haul them, rip them, sort them, and so much more.

How can you support children in using them as loose parts in your play environment?
