The internet doesn’t have as many posts on creative things to do with egg cartons as it has cute kitten videos, but there are a lot of egg-carton-based ideas floating around out there. They have been used for preschool craft projects and play for decades. While there are safety concern in some quarters about possible salmonella risk in reusing egg cartons, none of the articles I reviewed pointed to actual incidents where a child became ill from an egg carton interaction. I’ve also been unable to turn up any news stories about real-world examples of egg carton danger (what a wild and crazy life I lead, searching the web for egg carton risk news).
I’m pro egg carton reuse, you’ll have to make up your own mind. A few years back, the UK’s HSE put out the following PDF which I think sums things up nicely. That said, if you have real-world documentation that supports banning these items in early learning setting I would love to review it.
