About Licensed Capacity
Licensed Capacity refers to the maximum number of children legally allowed in a regulated child care setting at one time. These capacities are set by the regulating agency and vary from region to region.
Generally, a program’s capacity is determined based on factors like the available indoor program space, outdoor play space, the number of qualified staff, and available equipment. Other factors, like adult-child ratio, may also factor in to a program’s licensed capacity.
In some cases, licensed capacity is broken down by age. For example, Happy Play Time Children’s Center may be restricted to a maximum of eight infants because that is how many babies they are equipped and staffed to accommodate.
