Quote

Strict standardization narrows the freedom and flexibility in schools and classrooms to do things that are truly meaningful to them, like experimenting with new ideas or letting children learn through play. It also restrains teachers from local experimentation, reduces the use of alternative approaches, and limits risk-taking in schools and classrooms. The consequence is that the more that teaching gets standardized in schools, the less freedom teachers and children have to take risks and think creatively.
