About Ken Robinson
Sir Ken Robinson, born on March 4, 1950, in Liverpool, England, was a globally celebrated educator, author, and speaker who transformed the discourse around education. Renowned for his passionate advocacy of creativity and innovation, he challenged conventional educational systems to prioritize individual talents over standardized conformity. Knighted in 2003 by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the arts, Robinson gained widespread acclaim through his 2006 TED Talk, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?”—one of the most-viewed TED Talks ever, with over 60 million views—where he argued that schools often suppress rather than cultivate creative potential. His work inspired educators, policymakers, and millions worldwide to rethink how we nurture human capacity in an ever-evolving world.
Robinson’s life was marked by resilience and a deep commitment to learning. Born into a working-class Liverpool family, he contracted polio at age four, spending months in hospital and facing lifelong physical challenges, yet he pursued a remarkable career blending academia, the arts, and public advocacy. He authored influential books such as The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything, a New York Times bestseller, and Creative Schools, calling for a radical reimagining of education to better equip students for the future. Known for his wit, warmth, and engaging style, Robinson made complex ideas accessible to diverse audiences. He passed away on August 21, 2020, after a battle with cancer, leaving a legacy that continues to shape educational thought and practice.
