Jump ropes, when used for jumping and other child-created games, promote physical activity and coordination in children’s play. They encourage active play as children skip, jump, and hop.
They also add a little spice to dramatic play, where they become pet snakes, Wonder Woman’s Lasso Of Truth, power lines, and the like. Since they can be used to secure and pull materials, they also support playful STEM learning.
Adults worry about safety, but with proper supervision and clear explanations of how ropes shouldn’t be used, they are perfectly safe for children’s play.
