By experiencing conflict, your child can learn lifelong skills, including positive assertiveness, independence and mediation skills for managing future conflicts: I can stand up for myself and stop things I don’t like. I know how to set limits on other kids. When I have a problem with another person, I speak up and tell him or her directly and clearly what I don’t like. I have to listen to what other people say to me, and stop when they set limits. Sometimes what I was worried about at first wasn’t even the problem. Our ideas might not be the same, but together we can work something out. I don’t always need an adult’s help. I can solve many of my own problems.
