To understand how children will respond and react to the learning culture of the school, practitioners first need to appreciate the learning culture of the home. What are parental attitudes to schooling? Are parents ambivalent? Are they keen, but demand formality? Are they overanxious and pressurizing? Whatever experiences the child has had at home will manifest themselves in some way in the nursery or classroom. So to understand the child well, practitioners need to understand the influences of the home.
